OPENING MASS FOR THE QUASI-PARISH
FOR THE EXTRAORDINARY FORM OF THE ROMAN RITE
AT THE CHURCH OF SAINT MARY IN CONSHOHOKEN
On Sunday, the 9th of September 2018, a Solemn Mass in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in the Church of St Mary in Conshohocken. This will be the beginning of the Apostolate of the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter at St Mary’s.
For some years, it was felt that, while Masses in the older form of the Roman Rite were available to the faithful on Sundays and some other occasions, it would be desirable to provide a particular church which could facilitate access to a daily celebration of Holy Mass in the traditional Latin Rite . It would also be possible to celebrate the full rites for Holy Week, have more solemn celebrations of days of obligation, to provide for administration of the Sacraments in the traditional rites and enable the faithful to have a venue for the traditional devotions for the various seasons of the year. It is hoped that it will be possible to provide for all of these needs at St Mary’s.
We thank the Most Reverend Archbishop, Charles Chaput, O.F.M., Cap., for his paternal interest and care for the faithful desiring to use in its fullness the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite in the Archdiocese.
Father Carl Gismondi FSSP has been named as Pastor of St Mary’s. Father is originally from Pittsburgh, PA. In 1995, he entered the Fraternity of St Peter’s Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary, then located in Scranton, PA. Following seven years of study, he was ordained a priest on June 29, 2002.
From 2002 to 2003, Fr. Gismondi served as an Associate Chaplain at the Fraternity's apostolate in Sacramento. From 2003 to 2006, he served as Pastor of St. Michael's Church in Scranton, PA. Following his pastoral assignment, Fr. Gismondi attended the Dominican House of Studies, Washington, DC, where, in 2008, he earned a Licentiate in Sacred Theology. In July 2008, Fr. Gismondi was appointed as Chaplain to the Traditional Latin Mass Community of San Diego. On October 7, 2008, following erection of St. Anne Catholic Church as a personal parish for the Traditional Latin Mass apostolate in the Diocese of San Diego, Fr. Gismondi was appointed as Pastor at St. Anne's.
